A passion for birds

We will be an authority on looking after wild birds in the garden. We will be part of the network of scientists, policy makers and experts who shape the thinking for the markets where we operate. We already use the British Trust for Ornithology as our strategic expert partner – tracking the science, helping us develop and execute proactive, and when necessary, reactive responses to garden bird care issues and trends. (Our relationship with the BTO dates back to 1997 and to date we have donated £1.1 million to this organisation).

With the BTO we also lead the thinking around quality / nutritional benchmarks for bird food and we are ready to meet any challenge on the nutritional content of bird food or on bird hygiene issues.

Action and targets

  • In 2011 we launched a new BTO premium range to appeal to keen birders and to encourage BTO membership and wider awareness of Garden BirdWatch
  • Continue to work with the BTO to learn from long term science and wildlife policy trends
  • By 2018 raise another £900,000 for the BTO to reach a total of £2 million to fund research
