Sustainable Development
We live in a world where as the population and affluence grows, there are challenges facing business, politicians and consumers. We want to carry on helping people to enjoy the lifestyle our products help deliver, while reflecting that all of us around the world need to:
- Live within the finite resources of the planet
- Protect wildlife and eco-systems
- Reduce our contribution to man-made climate change
- Help people in the supply chain to live healthy and satisfying lives free from the poverty trap.
It is the responsibility of the Gardman Board to be aware of how our products and supply chains influence these issues: how we can accelerate improvements and reverse any incidences where we make matters worse. This has to be achieved at the same time as remaining focused on delivering the immediate expectations of investors, our retail customers and consumers.
Many of the issues and challenges around sustainability are complex and we don’t pretend that we have all the answers – in fact we know that we have many improvements to make. However we are committed to making changes and in the future we will share our thoughts and ideas with our stakeholders including retail customers, policy makers, employees, special interest groups and our consumers. As a leading supplier of some key retailers’ own brands, we embrace the need to respect and deliver their ambitions and policies too.
Our strategy
Our strategy is divided into two broad approaches: first through our core offers of wild bird care and grow your own product ranges. This area will encompass our two leadership themes:
Our second focus will be compliance-led, ensuring that we know, understand and deliver on our customers’ and other stakeholders’ expectations of the quality, ethical and environmental standards of our product offer and supply chains. Naturally this also means having an appropriate strategy for our operations. Our compliance-led themes fall into six main areas:
- Having products with the right quality, environmental and ethical standards
- Having the right standards in our supply chains
- Having the right standards in our operations
- Being a good neighbour
- Being open, transparent and informative
- Having effective governance processes in place
