Gardman/BTO relationship enters eleventh year

British Trust for Ornithology Logo

The product endorsement arrangement which Gardman have with the BTO (British Trust for Ornithology) has just entered its tenth year. As part of this arrangement, the BTO's garden bird guru, David Glue, advises Gardman on our product range and development. The BTO logo is used exclusively to endorse Gardman products. Over the last eight years the Gardman range has grown enormously to include a huge variety of bird food and accessories. As a result, Gardman has been instrumental in introducing specialist bird feeding to the general public and raising awareness of the BTO. In exchange, Gardman pays the BTO a royalty on every product sold and the money raised is used to fund essential BTO work.

As a member of the Birds & Business Alliance, Gardman have also sponsored the new main meeting room at the BTO's Thetford headquarters and one of the garden areas in the grounds. Within the building, Gardman will be helping to provide facilities for visitors attending a range of meetings and training workshops at the BTO headquarters. Outside, we will be funding the development of a shady, walled garden - a space that will be similar in area and aspect to those of many city gardens. The emphasis will be on a pleasant space with biodiversity benefits for insects and birds.

In early 2006 Gardman launched the BTO brand of wild bird food & accessories which is already stocked in over 500 garden centres. Gardman & the BTO expect to further develop this important product range during the next few years.

Gardman is also one of the founding members of the new Birdcare Standards Association and also pledged, in January 2005 to provide £60,000 for vital research on wild bird welfare being conducted by the prestigious Universities Federation for Animal Welfare established in 1926.
